A reminder that this coming weekend, a new rock-opera in Maltese – Kolbe – will be staged at the Don Bosco Oratory Theatre, Victoria.
It is being produced on the 75th anniversary from the death of St. Maximillian Kolbe in Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland during World War II.
`Kolbe’ is inspired by this hero’s staunch faith and his devotion to the Blessed Virgin. His story is entwined with the values of solidarity, inclusion, peace and freedom – values which are still pertinent to today’s society.
It is being staged for the first time at the Don Bosco Oratory Theatre on Saturday, the 11th of March at 7.30pm, with a repeat performance on Sunday, the 12th of March at 2.30pm (matinee show) and a last performance on the following Saturday 18th March at 7.30pm.
The organisers said that this rock-opera will surely be one of the best musical productions ever to be staged at the Don Bosco Oratory of Gozo.
`Kolbe’ is a 2-hour non-stop musical production of song and dance performed by a 100-strong cast. The show’s music, includes different styles of music for singers and choirs ranging from ballads to rock, folk, blues, as well as other styles.
The best Gozitan talent will be show-cased in this rock-opera. In fact the main characters will be interpreted by Ruth Portelli, Mario Caruana, Jamie Camilleri and Lara Xerri Mompalao.
Other singers include Sarah Bonnici, Maria Cassar, Fabian Galea, Angelica Portelli and Mario Portelli. The original score of the rock-opera is written by Italian song-writer Daniele Ricci, whilst vocal arrangements were left in the able hands of Mario Caruana and Evelyn Bonnici. Saviour Cremona is the artistic director of the show.
