Joe Bajada honoured with the Best Gozitan Sportsman of the Year

Joe Bajada was rewarded at the Sports Malta Awards 2016 with the honour of being named the Best Gozitan Sportsmen, granted to the best Gozitan athlete, administrator or official.
With a career spanning over 45 years in Sports, Joe Bajada served as a football referee, match inspector, director during international tournaments, administrator, member of several sports boards and even electoral commissioner of the MFA.
Even now Joe Bajada still practices his journalistic career in sports where he published several books about Gozitan football and also the Annual Ghaqda Kittieba Sport. For ten years he served as the chairman of the Gozitan Sports Board and also served in several different Boards for Maltese sports among them the MFA and GFA.
He participated in many local and international sports seminars. Honoured several times as the GFA Official of the Year and was given the golden pin from the Association Internationale De La Presse Sportiv – AIPS. Actually he is the Maltese Representative for the International Federation of Football History & Statistics – IFFHS and also the Maltese correspondent of Atlas Mondial du Football.
Two years ago he was appointed the General Secretary of the Maltese Cycling Federation and is a delegate for the European Cycling Union and Union Cycliste Internationale.
During 2016 he was appointed as th Chairman of Referee Commission, and also member of the New Football Federations Board. In the world of international cycling, it was on motions he forward to the European Cycling Union that started the Commission of small European States, and also that every two years a cycling championship starts for the same small European States, with the first edition next year (2018) to be organised and hosted here in Malta. During the same year of 2016, Joe Bajada conducted the respective cycling national teams over for tours in Israel and Romania, and also the European Championships in France.
Commenting on the Award, Bajada said that he was, “content and proud in receiving this honour, it couldn’t of came at a more appropriate time since it was received on my 60th birthday and therefore I thank God for giving me all these wonderful years.”
He added that complementing everything, the presentation was from a Bajada to a Bajada, Mark Bajada director of Bajada New Energy, while reading his profile was an old colleague of his, Joe Cassar, Secretary of the Sports Malta Director board.
“Then to top it all off John Zammit, President of the Maltese Cycling Federation was honoured with The People’s Choice Award,” said Bajada.
Finally he dedicated this honour to all his family, his wife and kids along with their husbands and his dearest grandchildren.
