Last year there was a record 821 knee replacement operations paid for by the Government. This information was given in Parliament by the Minister for Health Chris Fearne in response to a parliamentary question from Nationalist MP Chris Said.
Minister Fearne said that during the past year the number of knee replacement operations had continued to increase in state hospitals. “This Government also made arrangements with private hospitals from last April, where patients have undergone this operation, with costs paid by the government.”
Of the 821 knee replacement operations last year, 403 patients had been waiting more than a year for the procedure.
