On Sunday, the Gozo Motocross Association organised its fourth round of the championship 2016/17 at Ta’ Xhajma Track. Races started at 1pm.
Gozitan and Maltese riders came together to provide the most challenging and determined racing of the season. In Class A, brothers, Clayton and Kyle Camilleri raced against Mario Cauchi, Steve Xuereb, Robert Spiteri and Etienne Bigeni.
The GMA said that all of the riders put on an incredible show of motocross racing. Xuereb dominated the day as he acquired maximum points winning first place in three heats. Camilleri followed closely while Bigeni and Cauchi came head to head with the same amount of points. Nevertheless Cauchi won third place.
Class B was just as challenging with Nataniel Camilleri and Keith Bugeja on Yamaha YZ 250cc and Yamaha YZF 250cc respectively, both striving hard to win first place. In fact Bugeja ended up first while Camilleri followed closely. Following a short break, Godfrey Bigeni returned to motocross racing in class B and ended up in third place.
In Class C, Joseph Luke Gauci returned once again in a bid to win over Anthony Fenech who came in second. Mark Camilleri had a rough day while the young Matthew Spiteri showed great determination in his bid to place well. Raymond Caruana managed to come in third place. Frank Xuereb joined this category on a KTM SX 144cc, following a twelve years absence as a competing rider.
Gozo Motocross Association announced that its next event will be a FunRace with a Carnival theme, with plenty of interesting components. Classes A, B and C will incorporate a rider-shuffle followed by a special 125cc only race. Another addition to the day will be a beginners’ race that welcomes children and adolescents.
This activity will take place this coming Sunday, the 26th of February, at Ta’ Xhajma motocross track. Races will start at 11am in the morning.
The association encourages and welcomes new riders to the events.
