Turnover in selected services activities up by 1.5% in Q3During the third quarter of 2016, working-day adjusted turnover in selected services activities recorded an overall increase of 1.5 per cent over the corresponding period in 2015. When seasonally adjusted, the services turnover rose by 1.7 per cent over the previous quarter, the National Statistics Office said today.

Turnover increased essentially in the motor trade (14.2 per cent), in the transportation and storage (10.4 per cent), in the professional, scientific and technical activities (5.9 per cent), in the administrative and support service activities (2.2 per cent) and in the retail trade (2.1 per cent).

In contrast, however, decreases were mainly registered in the real estate activities (14.9 per cent), in the information and communication (1.8 per cent) and in both the wholesale trade and the accommodation and food service activities (1.3 per cent).

The unadjusted index for employment and the working-day adjusted index for both gross wages and salaries and hours worked rose by 2.3, 5.7 and 2.3 per cent respectively over the same quarter in 2015.

When compared to the previous quarter in 2016, seasonally adjusted turnover increased by 1.7 per cent. Increases were primarily registered in the real estate activities (14.0 per cent), in the professional, scientific and technical activities (8.3 per cent) and in the wholesale trade activities (5.8 per cent).

On the other hand, decreases were recorded in the accommodation and food service activities (2.8 per cent) and in the administrative and support service activities (2.0 per cent).

Seasonally adjusted employment and hours worked dropped marginally by 0.9 and 0.4 per cent respectively. On the contrary, gross wages and salaries increased by 1.2 per cent over the previous quarter in 2016.
