Carnival Culture – Contemporary Art at the Gozo Citadel
|Email item||Print item||
February sees the return of the annual exhibition by members of the Community of Malta Artists to Gozo, this year it is being held in the wonderfully restored Citadel, in Victoria, between the 4th to the 28th of February.
Visitors will be able to view over 100 works in a variety of media: sculptures, ceramics, and paintings in many styles.
The organisers said that this year the exhibitors have been asked to produce works reflecting a highlight of this time of year: Carnival, so expect some images of vibrant colour, fancy dress, and grotesque masks, lavish late-night parties, a colourful, ticker-tape parade of allegorical floats presided over by King Carnival (ir-Re tal-Karnival), marching bands and costumed revellers.
The exhibition will also reflect place: geographic and historic, so scenes of the Citadel and views from it.
The exhibition will be held over 2 floors and include many significant works by Gozo and Malta based local and international artists.
