Gozo's Gaulitanus Choir will be shortly making its third consecutive Italian concert-tour, this time in Tuscany – namely Prato, Pistoia and Lucca.
This follows the highly-successful tours in Florence in 2010 and Bologna last year. It will be the choir's 10th concert-tour abroad after previous performances on foreign soil also took the choir to the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece and Corsica.
The hallmark of this visit, which takes place on the 3rd and 4th of December, will be an artistic commitment in an important and historic venue in each of the three Tuscan cities. The events start off in Pistoia with a concert entitled Aspettando Natale at the beautiful Cathedral of St. Zeno.
The choir will then move to Prato where they will be animating the liturgy during an official Solemn High Mass at Prato's Cathedral dedicated to St. Stephen on the occasion of the feast of St. Barbara, the protector of fireman. The Mass, officiated by H.L. the Bishop of Prato Mgr Franco Agostinelli, will in fact be attended by the "vigili di fuoco" and various civil and military authorities.
The last commitment will be another Christmassy concert at the Church of St. Maria Corteorlandini (popularly referred to as St. Maria Nera) in Lucca. This Lucca visit will be held through the collaboration of the Gruppo Corale Il Baluardo – which will also be participating in the concert.
For these artistic commitments the Gaulitanus Choir and its principal soloists will be led by the choir's founder-director Colin Attard.
The Tuscany concert-tour is being held following an invitation by the Associazione Artes of Prato and is supported by the Arts Council Malta's Cultural Export Fund.
