Government’s policy is clear: Citadel access will remain free – Ministry

The Ministry for Gozo in a statement this evening, refuted the claim made in the newspaper Illum, which alleged that visitors would have to start paying an entrance fee to the Citadel
"Access to the Citadel will remain free, it has been restored and rehabilitated in this legislature and is now being enjoyed by the general public."
"This Government invested in extensive and intensive restoration work on the Citadel to give a new look, and a brighter and better Gozo," the Ministry said.
"So it will certainly not be the Ministry for Gozo that introduces charges to put restriction on access to the citadel," it added.
The Ministry said that the participation of the Citadel Management Committee will ensure that this site will continue to be protected by a constant and vigilant maintenance programme and move forward as an open venue for cultural and artistic activities, and as an internationally recognised site with its value as a legacy of world heritage.
The Ministry for Gozo concluded by saying that it "again denies altogether the story published in the newspaper and makes clear that the Government's policy is for access to the Citadel to remain free."
