According to Pilate by Revel Barker premieres this weekendThis weekend the world premier of According to Pilate – a play by Revel Barker, is being presented by the Gozo Creative Theatre Club, in collaboration with the Gozo Culture and Information Office.

According to Pilate is based on the biblical story of St. Paul's shipwreck in Malta in AD 60 while on his way to stand trial in Rome. As a Roman citizen he is invited, along with his companion Luke, to the home of Publius, the governor of Malta.

But who is Publius, and how does a polytheist Roman household react to the preaching that there is only one God?

In the fictionalised elements of the play, the Gozo based writer Barker, suggests that through an astonishing historical coincidence Paul may have been preaching to the easily converted and to the people who know more about Jesus than he does with the result being that Malta becomes the first Christian state!

The cast features Jamie William Camilleri as the apostle Paul, Alvin Scicluna as the evangelist Luke, Cettina Scicluna as Claudia the mother of Publius, George Camilleri as Publius, the Roman governor of Malta, Eugene Bajada as Titus the chief household servant, Alexia Mercieca as the family servant Drusilia and Patrick Muscat as Julious the Roman Centurion and Paul's escort.

This production will be directed by the Gozo Creative Theatre Club's artistic director George Mizzi.

This performance will be held at `It-Teatru,' Cittadella Cultural Centre Victoria, Gozo on the occasion of its inauguration, on Saturday, the 22nd of October, starting at 8pm and again on Sunday, the 23rd of October, from 6pm.
