A Conference on Gozo's development within Europe will cover various subjects related to Gozo's current social and economic circumstances and will address concerns of the various sectors of the Gozitan community.
The Seminar, entitled 'Gozo's development within Europe' is being organised by the Gozo Office of MEP Alfred Sant.
It will discuss the effects of EU's policies and rules on Gozo's double insularity, the significant problems that arise for islands like Gozo dependent for their development on another island, depopulation and brain-drain issues, the fragility of the environment, unimodal connectivity with Malta and absence of connectivity with the rest of Europe, improved access to ports and the need for the European Commission to carry out an in-depth analysis of the disparities in the social and economic development levels between Gozo, Malta and the EU.
The Conference will address the proposal of appropriate measures for the gradual but time framed elimination of these disparities.
Addresses will be given by Maria Dimech, President of the Gozo University Group, Mr Joe Grech Chairman of the Gozo Business Chamber and Mr Joe Cordina, Head of the Maltese Delegation on the Committee of regions of the EU.
The Head of the PL Delegation at the European Parliament Alfred Sant, whose office is organising the Conference with the collaboration of S&D, will address the Conference.
The Conference is being held at the Grand Hotel, Mgarr Gozo on Friday, the 28th of October at 6.30pm.
The public is being invited to participate in the conference. No pre-booking is needed. However, those who need further information can contact Dr. Sant's Office on email address firstname.lastname@example.org or phone number 21490705.
