For the third consecutive year the Parliamentary Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing, is launching a scheme whereby elderly people can apply to acquire tickets for the operas in Gozo.
Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana announced that this year the financial allocation has increased for the scheme and therefore more people will benefit through it.
This scheme has been made possible through an agreement between the Astra and Aurora Theatres together with the Parliamentary Secretariat.
Dr Caruana during the launch of this year's initiative said that operas in Gozo deserve appreciation and assistance in order to further strengthen and enhance the cultural calendar, not only in Gozo but also nationally and even internationally,
The elderly who can benefit from this scheme will have the opportunity to attend the operas Carmen on the 15th of October and Aida on the 27th of October.
Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana, said that this initiative encourages elderly people to stay active and at the same time it is helping and promoting culture and tourism in Gozo.
The established criteria to be able to benefit from the scheme are:
• The applicant must be over 60 years
• The applicant must provide proof of participation in society
• The amount of tickets is limited so only a set number will be able to benefit. After reviewing the applications, eligible applicants will be given the tickets on a first come first served basis
• Priority is given to those applicants who did not benefit from this scheme last year.
Also present for the launch were the Astra Theatre President Mr. Paul M. Cassar and President of the Aurora Theatre Dr. Michael Caruana, both expressed satisfaction with this initiative and its growing popularity with the elderly.
Applications may be obtained from the office of the Parliamentary Secretariat for Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing, from the Learning Hub at Ghajnsielem Gozo, or by calling 25903156.
