Air Malta and Sky-Gourmet have assisted the local Breast Care Support Group in raising breast health awareness amongst Air Malta customers. Recently over a two week period Air Malta’s cabin crew have distributed pink ribbons – the international logo for breast cancer awareness – onboard flights. Cabin crew collected over 2,000 Euros in donations to assist with the Group’s initiatives.
“With the support of our customers and Sky-Gourmet we have yet again assisted the local Breast Care Support Group in increasing awareness amongst our customers and the general public. This was the second year that the airline organised this campaign on board its flights. With last year’s funds the Group has printed various information booklets to assist patients. We also thank our cabin crew with whose support we have managed to collect funds for the Group,” said Joe Fava, Section Head Flight Services at Air Malta.
The Breast Care Support Group is a non-profit NGO which has been active since 1989. As well as providing practical and moral support to women diagnosed with breast cancer, the Breast Care Support Group aims to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of the disease, since survival rates are considerably improved if breast cancer is caught at an early stage. The group gives talks on breast self-examination, produces articles to be published in the press and prints and distributes leaflets about self-examination and prevention. The vast majority of the group’s members are breast cancer survivors and all the work they do is on an entirely voluntary basis. The Group relies on donations and sponsorships to fund their campaigns.
Air Malta said that their assistance forms part of its ‘Committed to the Community’ initiative that aims to support and encourage local organisations and activities in various sectors be they cultural, social, philanthropic, medical, humanitarian, environmental, heritage and sport, that help the Maltese Community in some way or another.
