Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries & Animal Rights Roderick Galdes has announced that a registration exercise of grapevines in Gozo and Malta is currently being undertaken by the authorities, with the registration ending this month.
He remarked that this registration enables the Government to have reliable information on the number and location of these grapevines in both Gozo and Malta. So far, around 500 farmers already took part in this exercise.
The Parliamentary Secretary concluded by saying that despite territorial limitations, the local wine industry is focusing more on the quality aspect and thus continuously improving its own product. This is necessary in the face of stiff competition from imported wines.
