The Ghammiedi Project and Exhibition Hall in St Catherine Street, Xewkija, have been officially inaugurated by the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo.
The Minister explained that the project included the restoration of the existing building and the removal of a wall in order to create more open space to form a square. The alley and the surrounding road have been paved, and public conveniences installed. The building is also being made more accessible through the installation of a lift.
Dr Refalo said, “the the Gozo Ministry is committed to carrying out embellishment projects around the island in order to improve the Gozitan product for the benefit of tourists and the local community.”
“The Gozitan economy is different from that of Malta, because it depends more on domestic tourism, it is vital therefore that this sector is given the necessary importance.”
Dr Refalo added that, “the Ministry for Gozo is looking at the sustainable development of the island, its culture and natural resources, along with the connectivity between the two islands, as the ideal synergy for Gozo to make the next quality leap.”
Following the inauguration Minister Refalo opened an exhibition titled `Hidmietna,’ at the premises of the Precursor Philharmonic Society, which is being held to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Committee of the Zghazagh Brijjuzi Xewkin, which is a sub-committee within the Precursor Philharmonic Society.
