3 Themes, 2 Artists, 1 Venue, is the title of an exhibition which is currently taking place at the Cittadella Cultural Centre in Victoria, by artists Emma Borg and Abi Macleod-Clark.
They said that the theme for the exhibition has been carefully chosen to reflect their lives and the influences around them.
Ema and Abi have exhibited many times together and in many collective exhibitions on both islands. But it's been three years since they have exhibited at the Citadel. The artists said that the first of the themes – The Ocean – is an obvious one, living on this jewel in the Mediterranean. Gozo seascapes and underwater life feature in this section.
The second theme – Architecture on the island – is what makes the island it is today. Nature plays her part in carving the landscapes, but foreign and local people past and present have contributed to the heritage and beauty in the building structures found here.
Lastly, Directions…… All corners of the island have their own aspects. Compass points and wind directions affect daily life from cold north to hot south. Emma and Abi's art has encompassed this in the Directions theme. Abi and Emma, have between a total of 26 years living on Gozo. Abi, originally from Brighton and a mother of three, always worked in the art industry in galleries and Art supply businesses. Her mosaic artworks are sourced from reclaimed materials. She brings to life and re-invents other people's cast offs.
Emma, married to a local Maltese and mother of two, originally comes from Devon, UK. Living in Gozo has brought out her artistic side with use of acrylic, canvas and various textured mediums.
The majestic setting at the newly refurbished Citadel is the perfect venue to showcase their exhibition, which is open to the public until Wednesday, the 29th of June, between 9.00am and 3.00pm.
