Gozo Live/Gozo College Creative writing competition winners

On Monday, an event was organised at San Lawrenz Primary to announce the winners in the Gozo Live/Gozo College Creative writing competition, which was held earlier this year.
A large audience of students, parents, family members, teachers and other Gozo College staff attended. The students were commended for the extremely high standard of entries.
The original intention was to award a winner in the two age categories and two runners-up, but there were so many excellent entries that the organisers decided to extend it to 5 honourable mentions in the senior category and four in the junior making a total of 11 students who received book prizes.
In addition the winners were given contact with a leading Malta publisher, Faraxa, who will advise them on their writing aspirations.
The junior category consisted of students aged 11 years and younger. The following students received honourable mentions:
Betta Mizzi from San Lawrenz Primary for 'Ozzo'
Gabriel Parnis from Gharb Primary for 'The Christmas Guard Dog'
Michael Xuereb from San Lawrenz Primary for 'Tristan and Skipper'
Sean Paul Azzopardi from Nadur Primary for 'The Zombleas.'
The winner was Joseph Galea from the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary for 'My Worst Paranoid Dream.'
The senior category was made up of students aged 12 and older. The honourable mentions were:
Melanie Galea from Bishops Conservatory Secondary School with 'Vinyl'
Clara Sciberras from Gozo College Secondary School with 'Julia Miller'
Marie Claire Vella from Gozo College Secondary School with 'Diary of a Bullied Girl'
John Paul Mercieca Saliba from Sacred Heart Minor Seminary with 'Cup of Coffee'
Nicole Micallef from Gozo College Secondary School with 'Broken.'
The winner was Kimberly Pace from Gozo College Secondary School with 'On One Winter Night.'
The organisers congratulated all those who participated, adding that, "not every student can win a prize. but everyone who entered are winners for showing the initiative to send in their work."
All students, parents and teachers are reminded that the Gozo Live Gozo College writing participation is now open and entries can be sent at any time. Selected entries from this participation will go into the third edition of 'Young Writers of Gozo' due out at the end of the year.
