Etienne Bigeni crowned overall GMA Champion 2015/16The Gozo Motocross Championship 15/16 has come to an end, as riders hit the track with enthusiastic and challenging attitudes for the last time this season.

It was a large crowd that gathered at Ta Xhajma Track in anticipation of an exciting afternoon of racing, everyone was on edge as soon as the races began.Etienne Bigeni crowned overall GMA Champion 2015/16The Association welcomed the Maltese fellow riders, brothers Clayton and Kyle Camilleri together with Peter Sammut. In Class A, the Camilleri brothers motocrossed alongside Mario Cauchi, Etienne Bigeni and Robert Spiteri, in unprecedented races that left everyone watching in awe at their high level of performance on the track.

With 11 points ahead of Bigeni, Cauchi needed to stay on top of his game to hold on to the approaching champion crown. Unfortunately his Honda CRF 250 broke down in two of the three heats, opening the way for Bigeni to fly past all his opponents winning the championship by 6 points. Therefore Etienne Bigeni was crowned overall Champion 2015/16, his second time Championship win in a row.Etienne Bigeni crowned overall GMA Champion 2015/16In Class B, Matthew Zammit, who came in second in the Finals heats, became the overall winner in this category with a total of 345 points. In Class C, Jorn Stellini, worked his way to the top on his Kawasaki KMX 250. He achieved a record breaking amount of points, 474 in total.

Following the races an awards ceremony took place at the same track. Mr Frank Xuereb, President of the GMA presented the annual Frank Bruno Motocross Award to a rider who shows commitment, diligence and discipline during the Motocross season. The winner of this award was Raymond Caruana.Etienne Bigeni crowned overall GMA Champion 2015/16Meanwhile all member riders where awarded a participation gift each. Mr Joe Bajada presented the day's trophies to the winners of the Finals Competition while Dr Christian Zammit, a representative from the Ministry of Gozo in the absence of the Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo, presented outstanding trophies to the Champions 2015/16.

In the wake of the closing of the season, GMA has two more events coming up soon. GMA will participate in a motor show that will be organised by the Sannt Local Council on the 5th of June 2016.

The other event is the second edition of the XTreme Trials and Enduro Cross which will be held at Kercem, on the 30th of July 2016. This event promises to provide the best entertainment in Enduro and Cross tracking as riders compete against each other in an array of obstacles that will be placed in an enclosed area. It will also be particularly interestiing, as it is taking place in the evening.
