In a statement today, the Government said that it is estimated that around 7,000 families are expected to benefit from this scheme.

Minister Konrad Mizzi said that through this scheme and others that will be announced in the coming period, the country is expected to meet its 2020 targets, while most families will also gain the benefits of cleaner energy.

Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Ian Borg said that the scheme falls under Priority Axis 4 and incorporates a total investment of nearly € 58 million for alternative, and more sustainable energy.

He explained that through an allocation exceeding € 15 million from European funds, this particular call will mean a substantial investment in this important sector

He added that "the alternative energy sector is one of those areas where the European Commission requires that we continue to invest more and through this scheme, the Maltese Government is committed to making sure that these important milestones are achieved in the coming years."

This scheme will work on a first come, first served basis and anyone who qualifies under this scheme will be awarded a grant of 50% of the value of the system up to € 2,300, or € 757 for each kilowatt peak. Successful applicants under this scheme will benefit from a feed-in tariff of € 0.16c5 for six years.

Applications will open on the 30th of May 2016 and more information can be obtained from www.rews.org.mt.
