Malta Public Transport (MPT) is teaming up with TravelX in preparation of the launch of its new smartphone application which provides users with real time information. The application is now in the final testing phase with actual bus users testing it, and is set to go live later this month.
TravelX, a Young Enterprise Company founded in October 2015 as part of the Junior Achievement Young Enterprise programme, is made up of a group of thirteen current JA-YE participants who have given themselves a challenge of changing Malta for the better.
The young enterprise company will be giving consultancy service to Malta Public Transport in relation to the development and launch of the mobile application.
The team, all students at the Verdala International School have decided to focus their efforts on public transport- a service which affects millions of lives every year.
"We wanted to focus on something that adds value to a large group of people in Malta and Gozo and felt that public transport was a good area to look at. Millions of people use the bus service in Malta throughout the year, and having a good service is essential to build a sustainable and inclusive society," stated TravelX CEO Seif Abdelkader.
The company therefore decided to focus on access to timely information for bus users as their main objective, working to develop a tool that could give real time information to users at the click of a button, which was also the focus of Malta Public Transport.
"We were very pleased to hear from TravelX about their initiative, as this reaffirms the need for such a tool and encourages its use. Although we were already developing a mobile application we understood that having TravelX as part of our team would add value to the development and testing process. As a company we see this as an opportunity to support these students to develop a sense of entrepreneurship and invest in their future. We hope that through this collaboration both parties can see their vision turn into reality which will in turn benefit our wider community," stated Malta Public Transport General Manager, Konrad Pule.
This event was attended by CEO of the Junior Achievement Young Enterprise, Julian Azzopardi along with the General Manager of Malta Public Transport, Konrad Pule and the Commercial Director of Malta Public Transport, Daniel Grech.
