The Circolo Gozitano, for the third year running, will be commemorating Gozo Day tomorrow, Tuesday, the 28th of October 2008.
The programme of activities planned for this year opens on Tuesday with a Pontificial Mass at the Gozo Cathedral at 7.15pm. The main concelebrant will be Mons Nikol Cauchi, Bishop Emeritus for Gozo. After the mass, a wreath laying ceremony will be held at the Archpriest Saver Cassar monument in Independence Square, Victoria. A commemorative ceremony and reception will then be held at the Circolo Gozitano.
Gozo day commemorates the day when Gozo was liberated from the French occupation, as a result of which Gozo for a brief period of time gained complete autonomy. This year is the 210th anniversary of that calamitous day
