A charity cycle ride is being organised in aid of the Arka Foundation, on Wednesday, the 10th of February (Public Holiday). The Foundation, which was established in 1999 by its founder Mgr.Manuel Curmi, was the first respite centre to open in Gozo.
It is a voluntary, non-profit making and non-governmental organisation that promotes the welfare of people with special needs and of their families, irrespective of their creed or nationality.
The ride will start from Arka and make its way to Ta’ Pinu, with a short break, and then the return trip to Arka for refreshments and a tour of the Arka Complex. The itinerary is shown below:
Registration at Arka 10:00
Start of group tour 10:30 From Arka to Ta’Pinu
Group gathers at Ta’Pinu 11:00
Start back 11:15 From Ta’Pinu to Arka
Arrive at Arka 11:35
Tour of Arka Complex till 12:30
The Arka Foundation said that it has been given 75 tickets for the ferry, which will be given out at Arka for the return trip on a first come, first served basis. “It is appreciated that the receivers of these tickets each give a donation of €10, whilst the other taking part in the ride are requested to give a donation of €5.”
This fundraising activity is sponsored by the Ministry for Gozo and starts at 10:30am when all the participants cycle as a group (this is not a race) to Ta’ Pinu. Arka said that it “is quite an easy and straight route and has been approved by the Police. We shall be having the Traffic Police and the St John’s Ambulance with us all the way.”
So please keep the date free and join in this event to help raise funds for this very worthy cause.
The Gozo Greyhounds Sports Club will be participating in the ride with 9 young members of the club.
Louis Debattista is inviting people of all ages to join their group on the ride and said that he is willing to check bikes over anytime beforehand for free, please contact him on 99609845. “Even if you are not joining in the ride, you can sponsor one of the young cyclists through the Arka Foundation,” Louis said.
