The Gaulitanus Choir ushered in 2016 with the 4th edition of its annual musical concert – A New Year's Toast, performed on the 1st of January to a packed hall at the Hotel Kempinski San Lawrenz.
Entitled Singing for Peace: with International Christmas Songs, the concert aimed to transmit a sense of fraternity through the singing of Christmas songs from various countries, particularly in a world scenario where peace is very much threatened.
The programme included carols and songs from the British Isles, France, Austria, Poland, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, Spain, USA and Malta. Some numbers received their Malta premiere.
The choir's extensive role in this concert was complimented by that of its main soloists, sopranos Patricia Buttigieg, Stephanie Portelli and Annabelle Zammit, and mezzo-soprano Marthese Borg. Tenor Josef Xuereb and bass Ian Grech had minor solo parts. Marion Sayers narrated the proceedings.
The choir was accompanied by its resident pianist, Stephen Attard, and conducted by its founder-director and artistic director, Colin Attard.
The event was supported by the Kempinski Hotel, Bank of Valletta and Playpen.
