Live In Carer Pilot Scheme launched by the GovernmentThe Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing Dr Justyne Caruana, has today launched a Pilot Project for Live in Carers for the Elderly, which will run for one year.

She explained that in the budget the Government had allocated €1 million for the pilot project aiming to extend it in the future and is aimed at helping the elderly remain in their own homes within their communities.and by carers of their own choice.

Eligible applicants for this pilot project are those persons who at the date of the budget were on the waiting list for Government residential services and must be over 60-years of age. Dr. Caruana said that those who apply for this pilot project will be subsidised 50% of the minimum wage for live-in carers.
