These special activities, which were conducted by Mr. Philip M. Chircop, together with a Gozitan group of grandparents, provided the ideal opportunity to provide festive cheer and greetings for the elderly residents. The Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing Dr. Justyne Caruana, was present for the event a Villa San Lawrenz and made a short speech for the occasion. The Government has 10 beds for care of the elderly at Villa San Lawrenz, which were purchased through a Public Private Partnership scheme.
A group from the Gozo branch of Nanniet Malta played Christmas songs on guitars, with the help of some of the residents who joined in along with them. There was also the traditional child Christmas sermon by little Leo Mike Farrugia, an altar boy of the Cathedral of Gozo, and of course, the welcome presence of Father Christmas.
Nanniet Malta said that the elderly should not be forgotten or abandoned, "they should always be treated with dignity, love and respect."
