Restoration work to start on facade & dome of St George’s Basilica

The Ministry for Gozo has entered into an agreement with the Administration of the Basilica of St. George, in Victoria, to carry out a project for the restoration of the facade and dome of the church. This project will be financed by the Ministry for Gozo through a grant of € 106,000.
The Ministry said that this is a project of importance, as it will be the first time that any restoration and conservation has been carried out on the exterior part of the church, which is one of the most important monuments in Victoria Gozo.It will also serve to stop any possible damage that could be caused to the interior of the building because of the infiltration of water etc.
The Ministry said that this is part of a number of projects being undertaken by the Government in Victoria, in the way of restoration and conservation, including the Banca Giuratale, the restoration of the facade of the Ministry for Gozo, the extensive renovation at the Citadel and the upgrading of various works of art. “This brings value to the tourism product of Victoria, making it an attractive destination for visitors to the island.”
