Treasury staff working flat-out to process European Fund payments

Minister for Finance Edward Scicluna today visited the Treasury Department's EU Funds Management employees who are dealing with the closure of disbursements in connection with the Cohesion Policy 2007-2013 programming period.
The Minister expressed his complete confidence and appreciation for the collective commitment of the entire staff who, although it being the last Sunday before Christmas, were working to do their utmost to process all European Fund payments before the deadline of the 31st of December.
Minister Scicluna explained that some €20 million were being processed every week. "I am convinced that, in the spirit of collegiality between the management and employees of this Section of the Treasury, and in collaboration with other bodies relating to the management of European funds, we have the abilities to achieve it."
The Minister was introduced to the staff by the Director General of the Department of the Treasury, Mr Noel Camilleri, and the Unit Head for the Management of EU Funds, Mr Albert Zahra. Also present were the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mr Alfred Camilleri.
