Gozitan artist Aaron Formosa, is holding a sacred art exhibition at the 'Banca Giuratale,' Independence Square, Victoria Gozo.
The exhibition will be officially opened on Friday, the 13th of November, at by the Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo at 7.00pm.
The title of this exhibition, 'Light of the World,' is a direct reference to Christ's saying: "I am the Light of the world, whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but have the light of life." (John 8:12),
The environment at the Banca Giuratale, though quite small, is warm and welcoming – and suitable for the around twenty small to medium sized canvases which the artist intends to present.
The exhibition is at 'prima facie' like many others which are held around Malta and Gozo. However, there is a specific aim behind this exhibition – Aaron wants to put forward a new idea of sacred art. He would like to offer a new interpretation of Biblical episodes and other religious narratives; an interpretation which is different from the ones we are commonly used to and which are found in local churches and in other places of worship.
This new or fresh vision of art, idiosyncratic in style, is directed at challenging the normal conception of sacred art which many may have – which is the idea that art is mainly decorative.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until Monday, the 30th of November, during normal office hours.
