“Measures to increase the national minimum wage and the basic minimum pension are essential to address poverty. These should be endorsed by the state,” said the Communist Party of Malta.
“Social Equality can be attained when national and economic policies are socially oriented. Thus the Party urges the government to endorse policies that aim towards the re-nationalisation of essential commodities and services.”
The Party added that the “Government should also start addressing housing inequality. Progressive measures and fiscal policies to regulate the property sector are a must. Property tax from third property onwards is of a benefit to target speculation, the problem of vacant properties and tax evasion in renting of properties.”
“With regards to the Government’s finances, the Communist Party of Malta urges the Government to re-adjust the income tax system to be socially just and sustainable. Also the Party appeals for a tax on products not considered essential, such as expensive cars, apartments, yachts etc.” Victor Degiovanni
