Gozo salute to the memory of Fredu Spiteri known as il-Levarist

The Gozo Culture Council within the Ministry for Gozo organised an evening of folklore and classical music including literature, to commemorate the Gozitan personality, Fredu Spiteri, known as il-Levarist.
He was a singer of traditional Maltese songs, ghana and spirtu prontm he died on the 10th of November 1965, aged 36. The concert, which took place in Savina Square, was held in memory of the 50th anniversary of his demise.
During the evening the musical interludes were by the ‘string quintet’ under the direction of Mro Antoine Mercieca with soprano Rosabelle Pavia and tenor Mario Portelli. The veteran actor Mario Micallef took part in the reading of poems written by the friend of the late Fredu, il-Budaj, the dialogue performed by Kav. Joe M. Attard rich from the pen of the poet Joe Psaila which was converted for music by the same Mro Antoine Mercieca.
The closing speech was made by Professor Emmanuel Mifsud, who paid tribute to the Gozitan personality – Fredu Spiteri.
This evening was chaired by the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, who was accompanied by his wife.
