CABS have said that its volunteers filmed a young poacher on Wednesday, while he was operating a “massive illegal clap netting site to catch protected stints and sandpipers” in the Wardija area of Gozo.
The man – who, according to CABS is a repeat offender – was reported to the police and arrested at the site. “The net, an illegal bird caller and several plastic decoys were confiscated,” CABS said.
The picture shows the poacher on his trapping site, shortly before the police arrived. CABS Wildlife Crime Officer Fiona Burrows praised the police for quickly responding to the report which led to the arrest of the poacher and said that he will be taken to court soon.
