The first annual consultative seminar on disability issues was organised today by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing.
The seminar’s aim was for the Government to consult with the relevant NGOs and Stakeholders on several disability issues. Parliamentary Secretary Dr Justyne Caruana explained that a lot of work still needs to be done, and today was an opportunity to listen to the needs of persons with disabilities and move forward with the Government’s programme with regards to this sector.
Among other measures, the Parliamentary Secretary mentioned how the Government listened and acted accordingly when persons with disability stressed on the need of expanding public transport benefits to persons holding Special ID cards rather than only persons holding a blue badge.
The seminar was divided into three sections, the political aspect led by Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana, the Regulatory body led by KNPD chairman Oliver Scicluna, and the Service Provider, lead by Sapport Director Mauro Farrugia.
