Update: The Government in a statement this afternoon has said that it is closing the hunting season with immediate effect.
It said that before the opening of the hunting season the Prime Minister warned that he would not tolerate abuse.
“During this season the abuse fell sharply through strong enforcement and with collaboration between all those involved,” the Government said.
However, the incident recorded today is unjustifiable and no information has yet been received on who carried out the act, the Government said.
Therefore the Government is closing the spring hunting season with immediate effect.
This should again send a strong signal that similar abuses will no longer be tolerated in our country, the statement concluded.
Update with AD statement:
Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Prof. Arnold Cassola, commenting on the announcement of the closing of the spring hunting season said, “finally, after one illegality after another, the Prime Minister has just closed the Spring hunting season.”
“We were right. The Kathleen Grima image and the nice family on billboards were just a big bluff. It was, and still is, patently obvious that spring hunting makes no sense despite Joseph Muscat and Simon Busuttil’s posturing.” Prof. Cassola stated.
