This week Msgr. Joseph Gauci is commemorating the 50th Anniversary of his Presbyterial Ordination that took place on 25th April 1965.
Last Sunday. Msgr. Gauci celebrated a Solemn Mass to mark this milestone in his life. This commemoration was held at St. George’s Basilica, Victoria, and was animated by Chorus Urbanus, the same choir that 40 years ago was founded by Msgr. Gauci himself as the resident choir of St. George’s Basilica.
Chorus Urbanus performed ‘Missa In Fractione Panis,’ a composition by Mro. Dr. John Galea, the same Mass that was performed by the choir on the occasion of the Papal visit by The Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI.During the Solemn Mass, Msgr. Gauci was accompanied by a group of children from St. George’s Parish who had the opportunity to ask him a number of questions about his priesthood and his vocation. During the consecration these children accompanied Msgr. Gauci around the main altar.
At the end of the Mass, Mr George Borg, General Secretary of the choir, together with Dr. John Galea presented Msgr Gauci with a ruby ring on behalf of all the members of Chorus Urbanus.Mr Borg remarked that it was very fitting that Msgr Gauci was celebrating his 50th Anniversary concurrently with the Choir’s 40th Anniversary celebrations in St. George’s Basilica, the place where the Choir was established.Following the Mass, choir members joined Msgr Gauci’s relatives for a reception in the sacristy of the Basilica.
The committee and members of Chorus Urbanus said that they wish Msgr. Gauci “Ad Multos Annos!!”
