Ghajnsielem Football Club held a day of celebrations for its promotion to the first division. They were joined by hundreds of Ghajnsielem residents for a day which was literally packed with activities that started with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Ghajnsielem Archparish church.
The St Joseph Band then played marches around the main square ending in front of the Ghajnsielem FC premises.
A memorial was unveiled at the public garden opposite the football club commemorating the five years the club won the Gozo Football Association Cup between 1970 and 1974.
Ghajnsielem Mayor Francis Cauchi and club coach Peter Caruana took part in the ceremony in front of the club.
A rally was held shortly afterwards at the club premises in preparations for the last match of the G.F.A. 2nd Division season against Munxar Falcons.
The Blacks beat Munxar Falcons 2-1. Before the kick-off a minute’s applause was held to mark the passing of Leah Xuereb, daughter of ex-Blacks’ goalkeeper Jonathan Xuereb, and sister of Ghajnsielem’s reserve and Under/18 goalkeeper, Owen Xuereb.
The supporters then went on to celebrate at the Clubhouse for the rest of the evening.
