The Gozo University Group (GUG) said in a statement today that it has always supported the idea of focused courses being provided in Gozo, especially when it involves Maltese and/or foreign students staying and studying in Gozo.
GUG added that it “applauds the work towards this future investment and it is looking forward to the project’s implementation.”
The fact that a number of foreign students will be residing in Gozo could help boost the much declining entertainment industry in Gozo and make the island more attractive for youths, the GUG said.
“GUG calls for more work in this direction, especially with the Gozo Campus of the University of Malta,” where GUG said it “believes specialised courses should be offered, thereby following the Valletta Campus model.”
“However, with respect to the medical school, more details are needed regarding the envisioned logistics.”
In particular GUG added, it would like a clarification on “the effect that having a medical school, with student doctors, in Gozo would have on the medical service of the island.”
“Other questions are raised on whether this investment will see the Gozo General Hospital be structurally upgraded,” GUG concluded.
