Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem, has once again organised a programme of Holy Week activities in Ghajnsielem. The group was established in 1987 with the principal aim of producing quality productions and activities mainly connected with the Holy Week.
“Hadd il-Passjoni” (Passion Sunday)
In collaboration with the Ghajnsielem Local Council and Fort Chambray Limited, Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem will be presenting an activity entitled ìHadd il-Passjoni’ (Passion Sunday).
This activity will consist of the Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the inauguration of the Lord’s Supper and the dramatised version of the Way of The Cross ‘Kont Hemm’ (I Was There) which is based on St John Paul II’s Scriptural Way of the Cross, first prayed by the Pope on the 29th of March 1991.
Beginning in the Garden of Gethsemane and concluding at the tomb, each station focuses on a scriptural person who delivers a monologue challenging the audience to reflect on its part the Passion of Christ. The main characters include Jesus, the apostle John, the Centurion, Mary Magdalene as well as others.
The Stations of the Cross will commence at Ta’ Passi fields in Ghajnsielem, Gozo, where the Bethlehem f`Ghajnsielem activity is usually held, and will proceed through the historical site of Fort Chambray followed by the audience.
These locations provide the perfect ambiance for a Holy Week re-enactment. The scriptwriter JoAnne Debrincat is responsible for directing a cast of around 60 actors who will take part whilst Franco Ciangura is responsible for the artistic direction. Various people are also involved behind the scenes.
“Hadd il-Passjoni” will be held on Sunday, the 29th of March (Palm Sunday) at 5.00pm. Entrance is free. In case of bad weather, this activity will be held on 31st March at the same time and place.
The Last Supper
Another activity which Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem is organising is a live reenactment of The Lord’s Supper. This will also take place at Ta’ Passi fields.
The grotto area utilised during Bethlehem f`Ghajnsielem, will be transformed into the room where actors will portray Jesus sharing his final meal with his Apostles before his crucifixion. There will also be a live kitchen where traditional Passover food will be prepared.
This atmosphere and the natural surroundings of Ta’ Passi fields including the animals, will take visitors back in time to experience The Last Supper.
This activity will take place on Holy (Maundy) Thursday evening, the 2nd of April, from 8.30pm until 11.30pm and the following morning, Good Friday, the 3rd of April, from 9.00am until 12.00pm.
Our Lady of Sorrows Procession
Another activity that Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem, organises every year is the procession of Our Lady of Sorrows where around 100 personages dressed as biblical characters take part.
The procession will leave the Ghajnsielem Parish church at 6.00pm on the 27th of March and will continue throughout the various streets of the village.
