A reminder that this weekend sees the start of ‘The Gozo Christian Music Festival’ organised for the first time by the Don Bosco Oratory of Gozo, to mark the occasion of the bicentenary celebrations from the birth of St. John Bosco, patron saint of youths.
The opening night tomorrow, Friday, the 27th of February, will be dedicated especially to youths. Called ‘The Jesus Experience.’ the first evening will feature among others bands, “Rise” from Malta and “Light” from Gozo.
This festival which will consist of two weekends of Christian Music and feature individual singers, bands and gospel choirs from both Malta and Gozo.
Although Sacred Music has long been associated with Church services and church choirs, Christian music is a relatively new field, although based and inspired by religious traditions and beliefs.
The popularity of Christian Music, especially in the United States and in Europe is on the rise. Christian music includes pop, country, rock, and other types of modern music that appeal to the general public but which comprises Christian or inspirational lyrics.
Various Christian Music Festivals are held in many countries. In Malta, interest in Christian music is growing steadily. We now have local bands, groups, choirs and singers who are specialising in this field.
And now also, thanks to the Don Bosco Oratory of Gozo in collaboration with the EU LEADER programme, we will be having our own national Christian Music Festival, complementing the niche of religious tourism in Gozo.Spread over one week (including two weekends), The Gozo Christian Music Festival will be held between Friday, the 27th of February and Saturday, the 7th of March.
On Saturday, Christian Song and Singers Festival will be organised. This is a family show featuring various singers including Mario Caruana, as well as a gospel choir concert by “The Joy Gospel Singers” from Malta.
The second weekend of The Gozo Christian Music Festival, will first feature three Christian Bands in Concert on Friday, the 6th of March. Participant bands will be “Footprints” and “Eversity” from Malta and “Strait Ahead” from Gozo.
Then the Grand Final Concert of the Gozo Christian Music Festival will be left in the hands of the very popular “Animae Gospel Choir,” on Saturday, the 7th of March.
All Concerts will be held at the Don Bosco Oratory Theatre in Victoria and start at 7.30pm. Everyone is invited. Entrance is free for all events.
The Gozo Christian Music Festival is being presented thanks to the EU Leader Programme and is in fact a project part-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development 2007-2013.
