A CO-pulse oximeter has been donated to the Gozo General Hospital, by the Friends of the Sick and Elderly Gozo (FSEG). This is a compact instrument with inbuilt modern technology which can be used by the nursing staff at the A & E Department.
They will be able to check in a non-invasive way, the level of carbon monoxide in the body. Carbon monoxide poisoning can occur at homes where the elderly in particular use heaters or in case of fires or when one is exposed in a closed space to automobile exhaust.
The presentation was made by Dr John B. Pace President of the FSEG to Dr Nadine Delicata, the hospital CEO.
This is the 68th donation made by the FSEG to the hospital and the 26th year since the NGO was established.
The FSEG distributes the meals-on-wheels service around Gozo and also loans equipment and beds to patients who are looked after in their home environment.
