A new book entitled – The Academic Colorista, Paul Camilleri Cauchi – has been officially launched during a ceremony held at St Francis Church, Victoria, Gozo,
The book is edited by Fr. Charles Cini SDII, authored by Dr Aaron Attard-Hili, with photography and design by Daniel Cilia.
Within the large spectrum of books on art dealing with Maltese artists, this new Salesian publication occupies a very particular place. It has long been in waiting by the local art lovers.
The book chapters provide a wide view of the life and works by the established artist over a period of sixty years. The script, based on a six year long research, offers the reader with an in depth analysis of the multifaceted artistic life of Paul who is widely renowned for church works and the depiction of local genre works.
It is extensively and richly complimented by illustrations of the existing works taken on situ as well as visual material which have never been published before.
As a teenager, Che. Paul Camilleri Cauchi developed an obsession about painting. His paintings were literally the only thing that mattered in his life and he loved them with all his heart.
As a young boy he had dreamt of becoming an artist painter, “I was always a bit of a dreamer. At some point you just have to sum up whether or not your dream is important enough to you and if it is worth chasing.”
This exquisite book, presents the outcome of this dream presenting the life and work of one of Malta’s foremost artists.
The launching ceremony was held under the patronage of the Minister of Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo whose Ministry was also of support for materialising this book.
The hardbound book with laminated dust-jacket has a size of 31 x24 cm with full colour 192 full colour pages, printed in Italy on Symbol Freelife Satin 150 gram paper.
