Local Council elections postponed to be held with spring hunting referendumJustice Minister Owen Bonnici has said this morning that following the decision today by the Constitutional Court to allow a referendum on spring hunting, the Local Council elections, which were due to be held in March, will now be postponed, to be held at the same time as the spring hunting referendum.

That is due to be held some time between the 9th of April and the 9th of July, he said.

The Justice Minister said that it is expected that almost half a million votes will be cast in the local council election and in the referendum together.

EU citizens who reside in Malta are able to vote in the Local Council elections, however they will not be able to cast a vote in the spring hunting referendum.

16-year-olds will be granted a vote for the first time in Maltese history.
