The National Archives Gozo was twenty-five years old on Monday. It had been inaugurated by Anton Tabone, then Minister for Gozo, and Dr Ugo Mifsud-Bonnici, then Minster of Education, on 24 November 1989.
The occasion was marked by the opening of an exhibition entitled ‘Gozo Anniversaries,’ commemorating this and other important anniversaries related to the island of Gozo that fell during 2014.
It was inaugurated by Gozo Minister Anton Refalo, who spoke on the importance of the National Archives of Gozo as the Institution safeguards the documentary sources of Gozo’s past and provides a haven of information to researchers in many aspects of local history.
Bishop Mario Grech, who was also present, praised the institution as it is, he said, an antidote to that dementia that tends to delete our past collective memory.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until the end of 2014, from Monday to Saturday, 8.30am-12.30pm.
An Exhibition Catalogue and a special commemorative card were issued for the occasion and are available on site.
