Refurbishment works at Gnien ta’ Blankas, a 2.5 ha olive grove, which is located on the boundary of the Mgarr ix-Xini Valley, have now been completed.
The works, which got underway earlier in the year, were organised by the Xewkija Local Council, under the project Measure 313.The refurbishment project came to an end with the construction of a traditional ‘girna,’ (stone shelter, which was mostly used for sheltering flocks of goats or sheep).
The other works included in this project were the Interpretation Centre and new Public Conveniences, which were finished earlier this year and at the end of summer respectively.
The Council said that the idea is to transform Ta’ Blankas into a family park, attracting both locals and tourists to relax in this popular area.
Works also included the installation of benches and the restoration of rubble walls, among others.
