ERRC Lifeguards assist 3 swimmers on last day of service at Ramla BayToday, is the last day of the lifeguarding service at Ramla Bay in Gozo, and at around 11.40am, lifeguards of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps provided assistance to two foreign persons, a mother and son, as they found themselves in difficulty while swimming outside the swimming zone (Xaghra side).

Lifeguards swam to assist them and successfully brought them ashore to safety. In the meantime a third swimmer was given assistance by another lifeguard. The Civil Protection Department, Police and Gozo General Hospital were contacted and were present on the scene only minutes after the call.

The lifeguarding service at the Ramla Bay is possible due to financial support from the Malta Tourist Authority and Gaia Foundation. Support is also being provided by the Ministry for Gozo, Mgarr Marina, Transport Malta, Police, Armed Forces of Malta, Police and the Civil Protection Department.

Why do people swim outside the safe area? Do they not realize they are risking not only their own lives but the ERRC Lifeguards. The area is roped off for a reason.
