The Gozo Youth Council and the Gozo Sports Board recently got together for an official meeting, which served to discuss two areas closely linked to each other.
The youth and sports were at the epicentre of the agenda as both delegations took turns in proposing new ways of amalgamating the good practice of sports with the process of social growth, including an annual sports event on the island.
A brief introduction was made by Gozo Sports Board CEO Mr Alvin Grech regarding their work in tackling sports in Gozo. GYC President, Mr Ryan Mercieca, introduced the committee and offered long term collaboration with the officials in order to liaise both sectors more successfully.
Following the meeting, the Gozo Youth Council’s Public Relations’ Officer Eman Borg, fervently stated that ‘the younger generation constitutes the future of sports,” assuring the eagerness to work from both Councils and the constructive aura felt in the meeting.
Mr Ryan Mercieca proposed to the sports board an annual sports event that will get all the disciplines together, and for this venture the GYC has asked for support from the Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport, Chris Agius. He also invited the Gozo Sports Board to be partners for such an event.
Both councils said that they would like to take the opportunity to encourage all, especially the youth, to take part in such an eventful week. “Many sport disciplines will be included and it should be fun for everyone as we try our best to cater for every taste,” the Gozo Sports Board said.
