Fixed IP satellite data link technology system to Gozo installed by PBS

The Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo today addressed a meeting of the PBS Special Panel which is devoted exclusively to Gozo and its needs from the perspective of national public broadcasting.
Dr Refalo applauded the agreement that was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Gozo, John Borg and Anton Attard, the CEO of PBS, whereby a fixed IP satellite data link technology system with Digital Mobile News Gathering, has been installed by PBS to connect Gozo to its Creativity Hub in Guardamangia.
The Minister explained that this is a great advantage for Gozo, as this facility opens prospects for Gozitan personalties to facilitate direct transmissions, interviews or recordings from Gozo without the need to travel to Malta.
He added, that in addition, special events and instances involving emergency news can be captured live or filmed and transmitted in the shortest possible time. The Minister praised the decision that the PBS studio dedicated to these transmissions is being set up within the CVC media complex in Victoria.
Dr Refalo said that another important agreement achieved between PBS and CVC achieved in recent months is that services and features are displayed regularly in the news of TVM. Gozo also has an average of three services per week as well as a number of links transmitted live.
The Minister for Gozo said how important it is for Gozo that strategic areas of trade, tourism, historical heritage, architectural, environmental, cultural and education get this attention, which is so beneficial for progress of the socio-economic development of the island.
The Government’s vision, the Minister said, “is to promote all possible means to improve the standard of living of the people, and therefore the special focus that public broadcasting is committed to deliver on the various realities of Gozo, constitutes positive impact in the development process.”
