Youths with special needs have been enjoying the first ‘Paracamp,’ camping for all holiday in the Maltese islands, taking place at Fort Chambray in Gozo.
This is a youth initiatives project, organised by Young Volunteers, The main objective of this Para Camp is to integrate people with special needs, as well as other persons who do not have as much opportunity as others to be actively involved in the experience of camping, bringing equality between people with fewer opportunities.
It also helps to educate participants towards a healthy lifestyle through sports and activities outside the home. Para Camp introduces sports to people with disabilities and other problems.
The 20 participants, from the Santa Marta Day Centre and the Arka Foundation, are having a great time at the camp enjoying fun games and educational activities to name but a few.
On Wednesday the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo visited the young people at the camp. He congratulated all involved and said that he hoped that other such camps will be organised in the future.
The camp is supported by the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps, EUPA, Youth in Action Programme, Beyond Barriers and particularly the Malta National Agency
