Gozo Police Constable Santo Cassar remembered in Zebbug ceremony

100 years after the tragic death of Gozo Police Constable 201 Santo Cassar in Zebbug Gozo, a commemorative plaque was unveiled during a ceremony on Saturday, at the location where the whole episode took place.
PC Santo Cassar is the only police officer in Gozo to have died after being severely injured by a gun-shot while on duty.
He suffered grievous injuries and was in danger of dying after being hit by a gun-shot while on duty on the 1st of August 1914 at 11.45pm in the main square of Zebbug, Gozo. He died later at the Victoria Hospital, which today is the premises of the Ministry for Gozo.
