Dr Martin Balzan, Secretary-General of the Medical Association of Malta (MAM), announced this afternoon that as a result of the registered industrial dispute, the MAM has issued several directives.
All doctors in every health service will stop work on Tuesday morning between 8.00am and 9.00am as part of the industrial action. Wards, emergency and operating theatres will be excluded from this directive Dr Balzan said.
Patients with appointments on Tuesday morning will be seen but everything will start an hour later, he said.
Another directive issued is that from 8.00am on Tuesday morning, doctors will not be issuing sickness medical certificates.
MAM has also filed a judicial protest against the University, the University of Malta Academic Staff Association as well as the Malta Union of Teachers. The Association cited that it had been “left out of the negotiations even though it represented the majority of academic staff.”
