The Bishops, in a message issued today ahead of next weekend’s European Elections, said that “we Bishops believe in the true progress of human society and to ensure that those fundamental principles are protected and not played around with.”
The Bishops pointed out six of these key principles:
1 . The right to human life, which should be protected from the moment of conception until natural death;
2 . Strengthening the natural family, founded on marriage between a man and a woman;
3 . Human right to decent employment and having a fair wage;
4 . To consider the principles of solidarity and subsidiarity in the context of the web of social relations;
5 . Driven by mercy, the society continues to provide humane treatment to immigrants and help them integrate themselves;
6 . Respecting the environment.
The Biceps said that “since it is the duty of Christians, to consider and back projects that fit with these principles, it is also the right and duty of every Christian citizen to vote in elections so as to ensure that the European project would really favour humanity.”
