Celebrating 175 years of the arrival of the first titular statue in GozoAs part of the celebrations being held in Gozo to mark the 175th Anniversary since the advent of the statue and devotee of St. George, the first titular statue of the island, the Basilica of St. George in Victoria is organizing two activities of an academic and cultural nature related to this anniversary.

1. Friday the 2nd of May at 8.00pm, Muziko – Literary Academy under the auspices of Mons . Bishop Mario Grech at the Basilica of St. George. The keynote speech on the historical and social significance of the advent of the statue is to be given by Mr. Godwin Vella, Senior Curator of Ethnography within Heritage Malta.

2. The next day, Saturday the 3rd of May, The Conference Beautiful Road: Share the Church Building Society. The two main speakers will be Prof. Oliver Friggieri and Rev. Prof. Mario Farrugia sj. The conference will start at 9.30am and is being held in the Mons Giuseppe Farrugia Hall of the same basilica.

For both activities admission is free and the general public is cordially invited to attend.
